Sail Talk with Vasco Vascotto

Vasco Vascotto, the Italian sailor with the most world championship titles under his belt has just concluded the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in the role of tactician on Cannonball, and is now racing as tactician on the ClubSwan 50 Giuliana, which won the first race of the Rolex Swan Cup in the competitive One Design class.

Do you remember how many years now you have been coming to race here in Porto Cervo and how many Rolex Swan Cups you've taken part in?

I have two great assets, one is my memory and the other is... I can't remember!! (laughs)

Seriously though, I haven't kept count but for sure I was here in 1991 with the Italian Navy and since then I don't think I've missed any of the great international regattas that take place in Porto Cervo, with the exclusion of the periods when I was taking part in America's Cup campaigns. This is a unique place, fantastic both on the water and ashore, there is wind, there are shallow waters to take into account during racing, a unique scenario that sailors from all over the world envy, for me this is the only place where you can do coastal races that are at the same time extremely technical.

A fleet of a very high level has gathered for this 21st Rolex Swan Cup, could you comment on that?

Nautor Swan is a historic sailing brand and over the years has given so much to the world of yachting, they keep on making beautiful boats and holding the Swan Cup in Porto Cervo, which closes the circle, everyone wants to be here, owners and sailors alike. And the level of the competition keeps rising.
