Porto Cervo, Italy. 26 June 2018. Young sailor Daniele Nanni, a sporting member and instructor at the YCCS Sailing School as well as the skipper of hull ITA 659 Audi e-tron, will participate in the celebrated Mini Transat in 2019 supported by Audi and as an ambassador for One Ocean via the YCCS. The single handed transatlantic regatta takes place every two years, leaving La Rochelle headed for Martinique with a stopover in the Canary Islands.
By October 2018, Daniele Nanni will complete the 2500 miles of single handed sailing required to take part in the Mini Transat. The Mini Med regatta in Marseille, which Nanni recently took part in - covering 516 miles single handed in the Mediterranean, will count towards the total qualification miles. He finished in seventh place overall, proving his ability to overcome numerous adversities, from weather conditions to damage to the electronics of the boat; which meant he was left without autopilot for a substantial portion of the race. The use of satellite phones or GPS maps is not permitted during the race, sailors have access to just one VHF radio and nautical charts approved by the Mini class.
Nanni's participation in MiniMed 2018 came after completing the Archipelago 650 in Livorno and the Gran Premio d'Italia in Genoa - both sailed double handed - and the Mini Solo 222 in Genoa.
The spirit of the Mini 6.50 class underscores the same values of respect for the sea promoted by the One Ocean Foundation, values that the young sailor will promote as an ambassador along the way with the aim of raising awareness on the urgent need for concrete actions from individuals, associations and companies within a framework of respect for the environment.
Audi, partnered with YCCS for 11 years, will support this personal and sporting endeavour aimed at promoting a culture of sustainability specifically linked to the safeguard of the sea.
Upcoming regattas:
-1.000 miles to qualify for the Mini Transat 2019 (September 2018);
- Mini Barcelona (solo), 300 miles - 5 October
