YCCS Members Championship

Porto Cervo, 31 July 2026. The YCCS Members’ Championship, a traditional fixture on the YCCS summer calendar, took place today with overall victory going to Mari J, skippered by member Giacomo Loro Piana. Finishing level on points, Antonio Sodo Migliori’s team claimed second place, followed by Jonathan II, helmed by member Stefano Lelli, in third place.

Crews gathered for a briefing at 10 a.m. on the Terrazza Azzurra before setting out for the regatta course off Porto Cervo. The first start sounded at 12.05 p.m., with a mistral breeze of 6 to 8 knots. A total of three races were completed over the course of the day.

As always, a spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition characterised the event, with the battle for victory remaining open right up to the final race. In the first race of the day, the Mari J team were first across the finish line after an excellent comeback over several legs, overtaking Antonio Sodo Migliori’s crew, who finished second, followed by Jonathan II with Stefano Lelli at the helm. In the second race, it was Jonathan II that took the lead, rounding the final windward mark first and defending their position to the finish. Once again, Antonio Sodo Migliori’s crew posted a consistent second-place finish, while Riccardo Genghini’s team claimed third. The final race would prove decisive, and after some initial difficulties, the Mari J team found their winning pace once again to secure overall victory. Level on points with Antonio Sodo Migliori’s crew – who again finished second in the final race – Mari J clinched victory thanks to their two bullets. Completing the podium was Jonathan II, skippered by member Stefano Lelli.

Today’s crews included several veteran sailors such as Tommaso Chieffi, Francesco Ivaldi and Federico Michetti. Young Azzurra athlete Cesare Barabino also took part in the event aboard NewCom, with Benjamin Stillfried at the helm. For the young sailor, it was an excellent opportunity for development and exchange aboard a very different vessel to his usual ILCA 7.

At the conclusion of the action on the water, the teams gathered at the YCCS to celebrate together, and the winner was presented with a Garmin Onboard System, a gift from YCCS technical partner Garmin.

The Members Championship once again reaffirmed its role as a special occasion, bringing generations of sailors together - members, professionals and emerging talents - all united by a shared passion for the sport. The next event on the calendar is the Palermo–Porto Cervo–Monte Carlo race, scheduled for 18–23 August, during which the YCCS will provide technical support.
