Since its foundation in 1967, environmental and marine conservation has been a core value for the YCCS. In recent years, as the impact of human activities on the environment and society has become more pronounced, the Club has intensified its focus on sustainability.
This commitment encompasses both efforts to reduce the environmental impact of our own activities on land and at sea, and a duty to promote eco-friendly behaviour.
Since last year, all major YCCS regattas have adhered to the Clean Regattas programme by Sailors for the Sea, an international non-profit organisation that has developed specialised certifications for the world of yacht racing.
In 2023 the Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta, The Nations Trophy - Swan One Design, the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, the Scandinavian Gold Cup and the International 5.5 Metre World Championship obtained Gold Clean Regatta certification.
Sustainability is a journey, never a destination.
With this philosophy in mind, the YCCS once again this year undertook to adhere to the Sailors for the Sea checklist, continuously seeking to find further solutions to minimise the impact of our events.
Thanks to this focus, the Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta and the J/24 European Championship have obtained Platinum Certification, the highest level awarded by Sailors for the Sea.
