Three races completed on the opening day
Porto Cervo, October 2 2026. Racing got underway today for the J/70 Cup and the Italian J/70 Class Championship. At the end of the opening day’s three races J Curve, owned by YCCS member Mauro Roversi, leads the provisional standings with Massimo Rama’s CAIM Jeniale just one point behind. Steven Proud’s Swish is in third place.
The starting signal for the event’s kick off windward-leeward race was at 1:00 pm as scheduled and the day’s course was set off Capo Ferro, in the waters facing the Isola delle Bisce. The fleet raced in a southerly Scirocco wind ranging from 10 to 13 knots.
The first race saw CAIM Jeniale stage an impressive comeback after a poor start, clawing its way back up the fleet to round the second windward mark in the lead. The team held on to that position all the way to the finish and secured the win. Hold Fast, another Corinthian crew in the competition, finished right behind them.
After having finished third in the opening race, J Curve bounced back in the second one setting the pace from the start and crossing the finish line with a comfortable margin over the chasing pack. Behind them a fierce battle unfolded, with Swish and CAIM Jeniale neck-and-neck right to the finish. The two teams placed second and third, respectively.

The fleet once again favoured the left side of the course in the day's final race. Sinead Byrne’s One More Time took the win, followed by Ciclone and J Curve.
With one victory and two third place finishes on the first day of the event, J Curve is currently at the top of the provisional leaderboard. CAIM Jeniale follows just one point behind, while Swish is in third place. Five races remain over the next two days. Once the fifth race is completed, the worst result of the series will be discarded, helping to shape the final standings.
Racing continues tomorrow, October 3, with the start signal scheduled for 11:30 am CEST. The forecast calls for light easterly winds in the morning that will build through the afternoon. The winner of tomorrow's races will also claim the Garmin Cup, a special prize offered by the event's technical partner, Garmin.
