Young Azzurra athlete Cesare Barabino took part in the well-known Kieler Woche, the Kiel Sailing Week in Germany, in the ILCA 7 class, which saw 115 competitors competing, finishing with an excellent 11th place and just one point shy of gaining entry to the medal race, reserved for the top 10 in the fleet.
Seven races were held over the course of four demanding days of racing. The first race was a difficult one for Cesare, who finished in 35th place but was able to discard this result as per the rules. The young athlete tackled the following races with clarity and determination, racking up excellent results, including a third and a fourth place.
Barabino's 11th-place finish at the 142nd Kieler Woche represents an excellent performance given the recent period in which he was forced to skip the French Olympic Week in Hyères due to health problems.
Cesare Barabino: "It was a very complicated and challenging event with long waits on land and at sea due to the wind, which struggled to fill in. After an uphill start, I managed to find a bit more rhythm and concentration, managing to race well and limit the mistakes which, in such a large fleet and in light wind conditions, can cost a lot of points. I would have loved to have been able to get into the medal race, but I am nevertheless satisfied with the way I handled the situation and the result achieved."
Congratulations Cesare from the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda.
