The Italian Olympic Classes Championship (CICO) concluded yesterday in Palermo, Sicily.
Among the 66 competitors taking part in the ILCA 7 class was Young Azzurra athlete Cesare Barabino, last year’s event winner.
At the conclusion of three days of racing in light to moderate winds and variable weather, five races were completed, with the final day of racing cancelled due to lack of breeze. Despite facing unfavourable conditions - a focus of his training throughout the year - Cesare managed to deliver excellent performances, including a first and second place finish. These results kept him at the top of the rankings, earning him a third place finish overall, behind athletes of the calibre of Dimitri Peroni in second, and winner Lorenzo Brando Chiavarini, a sailor who represented Italy at the 2024 Olympic Games.

“I’m very happy with how the event went,” commented Cesare, “and to have finished in third place, sharing the podium with two top-level athletes and sailors such as Lorenzo Chiavarini and Dimitri Peroni. It was a light-wind regatta where I could apply all the improvements I’ve made recently through hard work and dedication. Now I'm looking to the future, with important winter training ahead of the 2026 season and lots of events on the schedule. A big thank you to Young Azzurra, the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and my coaches Marco Barabino and Enrico Strazzera.”
The YCCS congratulates Cesare Barabino on his outstanding result.
