Vamos Mi Amor leads the provisional scoreboard of the Coppa Europa Smeralda 888

Porto Cervo, July 7, 2023. Yesterday the first race in the Coppa Europa Smeralda 888 was completed, and today, day two of racing at this event, saw three further races carried out. For the moment Vamos Mi Amor is in the lead of the provisional scoreboard followed by Black Star and Botta Dritta.
Yesterday, July 6, it was only possible to complete one race as the second scheduled race was cancelled due to a drop in wind speed. Vamos Mi Amor led the fleet in that race from the first windward mark to the finish, bringing home a first bullet. Black Star and Botta Dritta finished second and third respectively.
This morning racing started punctually with the first warning signal at 11:30. Conditions saw easterly winds at 8 to 12 knots, accompanied at times by light rain.
The first race of the day saw a neck-to-neck battle between Charles De Bourbon's Vamos Mi Amor and Giada helmed by YCCS member Germano Scarpa. Vamos Mi Amor managed to edge out Giada, crossing the finish line in the lead by just 2 seconds, and capturing their second bullet. Marco Favale's Millenium Falcon finished third. Protagonist of the second race of the day was Botta Dritta who rounded both the upwind mark and the downwind gate in the lead, finishing the race ahead of Vamos Mi Amor. Third place in that race was taken by Achille Onorato's Canard a l'Orange. The final race of today, the fourth in this event, saw Vamos Mi Amor in command of the fleet from start to finish bringing their total of bullets to three and placing them firmly in the lead of the provisional scoreboard, with a gap of 13 points on the second placed boat, Paolo Rotelli’s Black Star. The rest of the scoreboard is very tight with Roberto Tamburelli's Botta Dritta in third place but tied for points with Millenium Falcon - third in today's final race - and Canard a l'Orange. Trailing these teams by just one point we find Vincenzo Onorato's Mascalzone Latino ahead of Mathilde, second in today's final race, by two points.
This close ranking reflects the sporting spirit of the eleven teams participating in the event and their passion for sailing.
This evening the crews will gather at the YCCS for the event’s traditional dinner, the perfect opportunity to enjoy its convivial atmosphere. Racing resumes tomorrow, July 8, at 11:30, with wind forecast to be from the east/north-east at between 10-12 knots.
Race updates will be posted on the YCCS website and the YCCS Instagram channel.
