Luca Locatelli crowned Members' Champion 2019

Porto Cervo, 4 August 2019. The 25th edition of the Members' Championship concluded today with a win for Luca Locatelli, followed in second place by YCCS Commodore Riccardo Bonadeo and Stefano Lelli in third.

The five competing teams met this morning in Piazza Azzurra at 10.30 for a briefing and the race started on schedule at 11.30. The first leg of the regatta was accompanied by a Mistral of 8 -10 knots, while for the second leg the wind rotated to the East, maintaining the same intensity.

A first in the first leg and second in the return leg claimed Luca Locatelli's team the title of Members' Champion 2019. The Commodore of the YCCS, Riccardo Bonadeo, with Mauro Pelaschier - historical helmsman of Azzurra and One Ocean Ambassador - placed second despite a victory in the second race, leaving Stefano Lelli on the third step of the podium. Teams headed by Giorgio Pierini and Klaus-Otto Künnemeyer placed fourth and fifth respectively.

“I enjoy taking part in sporting events like this, reserved for YCCS members, because they are an excellent time to experience together, in the most convivial way possible, the passion for sailing that unites us as Members.” commented YCCS Commodore, Riccardo Bonadeo.

At the conclusion of the regatta the teams gathered for the prize giving ceremony and the winner received  an inReach Mini (satellite GPS), which when connected to a compatible device allows access to topographic maps, colour aerial images and other useful functions for navigation, from Technical Partner Garmin Marine.

During the Awards Ceremony, YCCS Sports Director Edoardo Recchi also advised that from next year the regatta will no longer stop in Poltu Quatu, but will return to Porto Cervo, thus movng the traditional lunch to the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda.

The next sporting event involving the YCCS will be the Palermo-Porto Cervo-Montecarlo before the calendar resumes at full pace with September's events.
