The YCCS sporting season kicks off with Vela & Golf
Porto Cervo, 17 May 2019. The sporting season of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda officially opened with the 14th edition of the Vela & Golf trophy. The event, which combines the sport of sailing with that of golf, will conclude on Sunday 19 May, and is supported by technical partner Garmin Marine.
Registrations were completed this morning and immediately afterwards the official briefing was held at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, followed by the traditional welcome brunch for the six registered teams.
The home team representing the YCCS (skipper John Ripard), will face the winner of the last three editions, the Yacht Club de Monaco (skipper Adalberto Miani), the Yacht Club Adriaco (Skipper Alderico Paganini), the Italian Navy team (skipper Alfredo Saitto), and finally the Yacht Club Punta Ala (skipper Alessandro Masini) and Pevero Golf Club (skipper Giancarlo Coiana) who took second and third place respectively in last year's edition.
Tomorrow, Saturday 18 May, the competitions take place on the renowned greens of Pevero Golf Club and in the evening the crews will attend the traditional dinner at the YCCS. On Sunday 19 May, in the usual friendly atmosphere of the event the sailors will compete on the race course in front of Porto Cervo aboard the YCCS fleet of J/70 boats in fleet regattas on windward-leeward courses. The winning team will have the best score from the sum of the results in the golfing and sailing competitions.
Tomorrow, at the same time that the Vela & Golf event is underway, cleaning of the seabed in the harbour of Porto Cervo will be carried out by six teams of divers (Dilamar srl, Cesare Destro, Harbour Office, Carabinieri, Fire Brigade, Stemar). The event "Smeralda Holding Day" is organised by Porto Cervo Marina - part of the Smerald Holding company managed by IGY Marinas - in collaboration with the Coast Guard, and will be supported by the YCCS and by the One Ocean Foundation, who will offer a BBQ in the Piazza Azzurra at the close of works. The project is part of the "Agenda BLU 2019" calendar, an initiative promoted for the second year by the municipality of Arzachena.
