Return leg of Atlantic Anniversary Regatta sets off

09.07.2018. A fleet representing 14 nations left Bermuda yesterday for the return leg of the Atlantic Anniversary Regatta. The event marks the anniversaries of the YCCS and the NRV and will see the fleet crossing 3,500 miles of Atlantic Ocean to reach the NRV’s base in Hamburg.
From the start the Maxi Rambler 88, owned by American George David, took command of the fleet. A strong favourite for Line Honours, she showed off her power, reaching speeds of 20 knots. Varuna V owned by Germany’s Jens Kellinghusen was in second place, ten miles behind Rambler 88 with another German boat – the IMOCA 60 Malizia - Yacht Club Monaco owned by Boris Hermann – in third.
“The start was not as easy for us, but everything ran like clockwork and as expected. The boat’s acceleration is fantastic and the mood aboard is good.” commented Hermann, owner of Malizia - Yacht Club Monaco.
