Coppa Europa Smeralda 888, Botta Dritta unbeaten on Day 1
Porto Cervo, 24th June 2016. Competition got underway today in the 2016 edition of the Coppa Europa Smeralda 888. Nine teams representing the Yacht Club Monaco, Thornbury Yacht Club, Yacht Club Sanremo and Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) are taking part in the competition organised by YCCS in Porto Cervo through 26th June.
With two windward-leeward races completed today accompanied by a lively 16-18 knot Mistral wind, Botta Dritta jumped straight to the top of the classification with two bullets. Tim Sukhotin, at the helm of Beda, and Valter Pizzoli on Smeralda 3 fought for second place as each notched up a second and a third place in today’s races, however Beda’s second place in race two put her in second overall. Vittorio Codecasa on Giada, flying the YCCS burgee, sits in fifth place overall.
Two more days of windward-leeward racing are scheduled and the brisk Mistral breeze is set to hold so the YCCS Race Committee will be expecting to complete a number of races over the course of the weekend. The first starting signal for tomorrow, Saturday 25th June, is scheduled for 11.30 a.m.
The sporting programme is complemented by a lively social schedule which kicked of this morning with a welcome brunch for all teams at the YCCS Clubhouse and continues with a dinner at the Clubhouse tomorrow evening. Proceedings will conclude with the final prize giving on Sunday 26th June.
