THE CARIBBEAN, COMPETITION AND CAMARADERIE
THE CARIBBEAN, COMPETITION AND CAMARADERIE
FEBRUARY 12, 2015. The second edition of the biennial Rolex Swan Cup Caribbean will be held from 3-7 March and hosted by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) from its base in Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands. A fleet of more than twenty Swan yachts will take part.
The event marks an expansion of the longstanding partnership between Rolex, Nautor’s Swan and the YCCS, which has at its foundation the Rolex Swan Cup held in Porto Cervo in even years.
The Rolex Swan Cup Caribbean provides the opportunity for Swan yachts to compete in another alluring environment and for the crews to enjoy a week of quality competitive sailing within a relaxed, convivial atmosphere.
The fleet will be divided into two classes – Class A (18.29m above) and Class B (18.28m and below). James Madden’s Swan 601 Stark Raving Mad from the United States will defend her 2013 title in Class A, while James Blakemore's Music (Swan 53) will seek to better her runners-up finish two years ago in Class B. The largest entrants are the 28m (91ft) Swan 90s Odin and Solleone; the smallest are the Swan 42s Kora 6 and Migration.
After four days of exhilarating competition on coastal courses ranging from 14-43 nautical miles around the Virgin Island archipelago and its evocatively-named islands, what more fitting reward for the victors than Rolex timepieces and the Rolex Swan Cup Caribbean Trophy, which will be presented at the final prizegiving on Saturday 7 March.
