Canard a l'Orange and Mascalzone Latino are also on the podium, in second and third places respectively
Porto Cervo, July 9, 2023. Due to lack of wind there was no racing on the final day of the Smeralda 888 European Cup, as calm conditions made it impossible to get the last scheduled races underway. The ranking remains unchanged from yesterday, with Charles De Bourbon’s Vamos Mi Amor taking the victory followed by Achille Onorato’s Canard a l'Orange and Vincenzo Onorato’s Mascalzone Latino in second and third places respectively.
This morning at 10:00 AM the AP was hoisted ashore to signal the postponement of the day’s races. The Race Committee waited until 12:30, monitoring the possibility of getting a race underway, before finally having to announce the cancellation of racing for the day. In the previous three days, the eleven crews participating in the event completed 7 races concluding yesterday with a perfect day of sailing in sunshine and steady breeze.
Vamos Mi Amor has won this event for the second consecutive year, staying firmly at the top of the standings thanks to consistently good results: three victories, two second places, a third and a fourth. The crews of Canard a l'Orange and Mascalzone Latino, second and third classified, close with podium finishes thanks to their stellar performance yesterday where they were engaged and battling it out for the top positions in all three of the day’s races.
This was a special edition of the Coppa Europa Smeralda 888, not only for the number of YCCS club members racing but also for the competitive yet friendly atmosphere that characterizes this Class.
The event concluded with an awards ceremony at the YCCS where the winner received an Inreach Mini 2 compact satellite communicator offered as a prize by Garmin Marine, Technical Partner of the event.
The next sporting events on the YCCS calendar will be the YCCS J/70 Sailing Clinic held from July 21 to 23 followed by the Club Championship scheduled for August 6. Both events are reserved for Club members only.
