Vasco Vascotto - tactician on Cannonball and a Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup veteran- comments on the first three days of the regatta in Porto Cervo.
How is the week going Vasco?
Well thank you, unfortunately we’re suffering at the hands of Momo, but that’s because they are very well prepared. They improved the boat a lot over the past two events and we are finding it difficult improve our speeds. In general though, we are doing well. We’re in a bit of a tight corner where we have to battle with Momo and fight off the other contenders. Momo only has us to battle with…
You regularly take part in this regatta….
Sailing here in Costa Smeralda is always a real pleasure and even more so during this competition. The Maxi is a highlight of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda’s sporting programme. It’s an event that is more successful each year, there are more top boats each time. There are six boats in the Maxi 72 fleet, but the same number of boats again have just been launched and are very competitive.
Could you comment on today’s racing, with just two days to go to the final?
Today we consolidated our second place, but we know we need to improve, we have a lot of ideas that we are studying carefully. Our direct competition is better prepared in terms of speed and we are learning a lesson from that. As in all things, when someone teaches you a lesson, if you’re smart you learn from it and if you’re not you blame someone else.
