Update on Virgin Gorda following Hurricane Irma
Porto Cervo, 10th September 2017. Please find the following update relating to the category 5 hurricane Irma which hit the Caribbean region.
The island of Virgin Gorda currently has no electricity and telecommunications remain down. The BVI government has set up a crisis response centre and is working to restore power and communications. From the limited information available about YCCS staff it seems that everyone has survived.
The main Clubhouse structure appears to have held up well while the Marina has been damaged.
We are currently defining the logistics of getting to the area, evacuating our staff and verifying the situation on the ground directly in order to assist the community.
Those wishing to contribute to helping the population can make a donation to the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda current account specifying BVI HURRICANE RELIEF:
BIC (SWIFT Code): BPMOIT22XXX
Banco di Sardegna, Branch of Porto Cervo (branch number 84909)
Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected and who are experiencing difficulties as a result of this devastating hurricane.
We will publish further updates as soon as we receive information.
