Windward-leeward racing runs from tomorrow through Sunday and will see a fleet of 17 teams from 7 nations
Porto Cervo, October 1, 2026. After an intense and event-filled sporting season, the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda welcomes the J/70 fleet for the final event of the 2026 YCCS sporting season. From October 2nd to 4th, the waters off Porto Cervo will host the final event in the J/70 Cup—which also serves as the Class's Italian Championship—organized by the YCCS in collaboration with the J/70 Italian Class.
The event marks the return of the J/70 class to Porto Cervo after the highly participated World Championship held in 2017 that drew over 160 crews from around the globe.
Tomorrow, seventeen crews from seven nations will be at the starting line in the waters off the Costa Smeralda. Key contenders include J-Curve, owned by YCCS member Mauro Roversi and currently leading the circuit's overall standings; Andrey Pushkin’s Tenzor Team, winner of the Lerici leg; reigning Italian champion Cyclone (Yann Ingliesi); T-One (Manfredo Toninelli); Swish (Steven Proud); and Jeniale CAIM (Massimo Rama), currently second in the Corinthian rankings. A second YCCS team, composed almost entirely of sailors under the age of 25, is also participating with Cesare Barabino—an athlete from the Young Azzurra program—handling tactics and the mainsail.
Up to eight windward-leeward races are scheduled over the three days of the event. After the fifth race a discard that allows teams to drop their worst result of the series will come into play. The warning signal for the first race is set for tomorrow, October 2, at 1:00 PM, kicking off a weekend of racing at sea. Weather forecasts predict winds from the east at 8–10 knots, with gusts reaching up to 15 knots.
