Porto Cervo, 27 June 2025. The Invitational Smeralda 888, a traditional event on the class calendar, kicks off today and runs through Sunday, 29 June. Ten teams will compete in windward-leeward races on the waters off Porto Cervo aboard Smeralda 888 craft, designed for the YCCS by German Frers.
After a packed June programme that saw The Nations League - Swan One Design Worlds conclude last week, the month wraps up with a regatta known for its friendly yet competitive spirit. Four teams will represent the YCCS on the water: Germano Scarpa's Giada, Nicolò Saidelli's Bloody Mathilde, Giovanni Lombardi Stronati's Django, and Stay Rude, skippered by his son Guglielmo Lombardi Stronati, who will compete against his brother Vittorio Lombardi Stronati at the helm of BeCool. Completing the fleet are: Silva De Longhi's Ziva, Luigi Guarnaccia's Capocaccia, Carlo di Borbone's Vamos mi Amor, Marco Favale's Millenium Falcon and Martin Nweeia's Paka A.
Several well-known faces from the Italian professional sailing scene will take part, including Daniele Cassinari, Andrea Casale, Giulio Desiderato and Ettore Botticini - a former member of the Young Azzurra team from the 2020/2021 foiling campaign.
Following the official briefing on the YCCS terrace, the crews will take to the water for the first starting signal, scheduled for 2.30 p.m. CET, with a Mistral wind of 10-13 knots forecast. Over the course of the three-day event, up to three races may be held per day, for a maximum of eight races in total.
