The team led by YCCS member Mauro Roversi also wins the J/70 Cup
Porto Cervo, October 4, 2026. After three days of racing, the Italian J/70 Class Championship, which was also a leg of the J/70 Cup, concluded today. Thanks to a series of consistent results throughout the event, J Curve, owned by YCCS member Mauro Roversi, secured victory in both the J/70 Cup and the Italian J/70 Class Championship. Massimo Rama’s CAIM Jeniale finished second overall and won the Corinthian division. Yann Inghilesi’s Ciclone rounded out the podium.
The event, which kicked off on October 2nd, saw a fleet of 18 participants compete in a total of eight windward-leeward races held in light to moderate easterly winds. The final day offered ideal conditions, with a steady Scirocco wind blowing at 13–15 knots, allowing the one-design boats designed by Alan Johnstone to truly showcase their performance capabilities on the race course off Porto Cervo.
J Curve held the lead throughout all three days of racing, constantly pursued by CAIM Jeniale. A single point separated the two teams at the end of the first day, a margin that widened to two points heading into the final two races. The battle for the third spot on the podium also remained wide open, with Ciclone and One More Time both in contention.
Today’s two races were decisive, with the fleet performing spectacular planing runs on the waters off Porto Cervo. The Australian team aboard Swish won the first race, while Ciclone and J Curve finished second and third, respectively. CAIM Jeniale finished eighth but bounced back with a victory in the final race, allowing the team to tie with J Curve on points. The tie-breaker rule that favours the best individual race results overall ultimately decided the winner, and the victory went to J Curve.
Mauro Roversi’s crew, which included Stefano Cherin, Giulia Conti, Diego Larcher, and Filippo Amonti, secured the Italian J/70 Class Championship title and victory in the J/70 Cup for the first time. CAIM Jeniale finished second overall and first in the Corinthian division. The battle for the third spot on the podium was won by Ciclone, which enjoyed strong second and third-place finishes today.
"Winning the Italian title for the first time in the waters off Porto Cervo, in a highly competitive fleet and in conditions typical of the Costa Smeralda, is a source of great pride for me,” said Mauro Roversi, J Curve’s owner. “The event was hard-fought throughout and delivered a unique conclusion, with two boats finishing tied on points. We were fortunate to come out on top based on the tie-breaker rule and I offer my congratulations to Massimo Rama’s team—brilliant rivals who challenged us every step of the way during the event. I would like to thank my crew for their hard work, not only here at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda but throughout the entire season," Roversi concluded.

This weekend was also important for two athletes from the Young Azzurra program who were competing in key events on their 2026 racing calendars. Federico Pilloni competed in the iQFOiL U23 World Championship in Puck, Poland, securing the title of vice world champion, while Maddalena Spanu finished the WingFoil Racing World Cup in Cagliari today with a silver medal. In addition to Federico Pilloni and Maddalena Spanu, Cesare Barabino will be competing in the ILCA 7 class after participating in the J/70 Cup and the Italian J/70 Class Championship with the YCCS team.
The conclusion of the J/70 Cup and the Italian J/70 Class Championship today in Porto Cervo also marks the end of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda’s intense 2026 sporting season, wrapped up with a perfect day of sailing. So it is farewell to a year packed with top-tier sporting events while already looking forward to 2027, the year the Club celebrates its sixtieth anniversary.
