Porto Cervo, 25 May 2025. Sunshine and a light breeze reigned at the 19th edition of Vela & Golf, a traditional event organised by the YCCS since 2005. Following the second and final day of competition, first on the green of the Pevero Golf Club and then on the regatta course off Porto Cervo, the Yacht Club de Monaco team got the victory ahead of the YCCS home team in second place and the Yacht Club Punta Ala, who closed the event on the third step of the podium.
The event began on Friday, May 23 with the official Briefing and welcome brunch. The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda team led by member Germano Scarpa strove to defend their victories achieved in the last two editions of the event from the other five participating crews: Marina Militare (skipper Aurelio De Carolis), Pevero Golf Club (skipper Tommaso B. Carpaneto), Yacht Club Adriaco (skipper Alderico Paganini), Yacht Club Punta Ala (skipper Alessandro Masini) and Yacht Club de Monaco (skipper Roberto Tamburelli).
The competition began on May 24 on the green of the Pevero Golf Club. The Yacht Club de Monaco team had stand out performance, conquering the top of the ranking at the end of the day, while the Yacht Club Punta Ala and the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda teams finished tied for points.
This morning the participants gathered in the waters in front of Porto Cervo to compete in the three scheduled windward-leeward races. Sunshine and a light breeze between 6 and 8 knots that veered from the north to the north-east provided perfect conditions.
Protagonists at sea were the crews of the Yacht Club de Monaco, Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and Yacht Club Adriaco who competed all out for the best possible positions. In the first race the fleet started compact on the left side of the race course, but it was head to head between the YCCS and the Yacht Club de Monaco teams right from the start. The Monegasque team got the lead, increased the gap slightly on the last leg, and crossed the finish line first. Second was the YCCS and third was the Yacht Club Adriaco. The sequence was the same in the second race, with just a minimal gap at the finish line between the Yacht Club de Monaco and the YCCS. In the final race the home team gave its best, starting well and leading the race without being too closely threatened by the excellent performance of the Yacht Club Adriaco. The two teams rounded the first downwind gate side by side, but on the upwind leg the YCCS took the lead over the rest of the fleet. The Yacht Club Adriaco was left behind then passed towards the end of the race by the Yacht Club de Monaco who finished second.
The event’s scoring sees a combined ranking of the two sports it’s named for so the Yacht Club de Monaco team was declared the winner and returned to the top spot on podium since last time in 2022. The YCCS team finished in second place by just two points followed in third place by the Yacht Club Punta Ala which, despite today's partial scores in the regatta (5-7-5), finished in third place thanks to an excellent second place achieved in the golfing part of the competition.
The event concluded with the awards ceremony at the YCCS where the winner received a Garmin Approach Z82 and three Approach CT10s, technical golf instruments donated by Garmin Marine, Technical partner of the event.
The next event on the YCCS schedule is the Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta which will start on Tuesday, May 27.
