Porto Cervo, July 4, 2025. The Coppa Europa Smeralda 888, a traditional event in the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda's sporting calendar that’s now in its 21st edition, kicks off today and is scheduled to run until Sunday, July 6. The stars of the regatta will be the Smeralda 888 boats designed by German Frers specifically for the YCCS.
Just a week after winning the Invitational Smeralda 888 Cup owner Marco Favale’s Millenium Falcon returns to the water to try to face off eight other participating teams, three of whom represent the YCCS. These are Germano Scarpa’s Giada, Stay Rude owned by Guglielmo Lombardi Stronati and Bloody Mathilde owned by Nicolò Saidelli. The other teams, that already attended the last week’s Smeralda 888 Class event in Porto Cervo, are: Django owned by Giovanni Lombardi Stronati, Capocaccia owned by Luigi Guarnaccia, Paka A owned by Martin Nweeia, Vamos Mi Amor owned by Carlo di Borbone and Ziva owned by Silvia De Longhi.
The program foresees three days of windward-leeward racing in the waters off Porto Cervo with the first starting signal set for 2:30 pm today. Light winds from the western quadrants are forecast. During the three days of the event up to three races can be held per day, for a maximum of eight races in total.
