Every year, World Maritime Day highlights the importance of safety at sea, the protection of the marine environment and our shared responsibility for safeguarding seas and oceans. This year, on 24 September, the theme "From Policy to Practice" will underscore the need to translate principles and guidelines into concrete actions and measurable results.

For the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, sustainability is not simply a statement of intent, it is a commitment expressed in tangible measures, and the Club’s Clean Regattas certifications are clear evidence of this. During the 2026 racing season, the Cape31 Med Round 1, the Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta and the Range Rover Sardinia Cup were awarded Platinum certification, the highest accolade granted by Sailors for the Sea, an international non-profit organisation dedicated to protecting the marine environment.

The organisation of YCCS regattas is guided by the principles of the Charta Smeralda, which are referenced in the official race documents and put into practice both on land and at sea. From the rules communicated to crews and owners to environmental awareness activities such as the Clean Beach Day organised to mark World Oceans Day, each initiative forms part of an ongoing commitment to respecting the environment and the sea.

This same approach will also underpin the next events of the season – the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and the Rolex Swan Cup – with the aim of continuing to bring together sporting excellence and preservation of the marine environment.
