Azzurra

Azzurra, TP52

After the relaunch at the Louis Vuitton Trophy in 2009/10, the following year Azzurra made her debut in the Audi MedCup circuit reserved for TP52 class yachts, with a hull owned by YCCS member Alberto Roemmers.
In 2012 the name Azzurra would decorate the stern of an all-new TP52, designed by Marcelino Botin. The MedCup became the 52 Super Series and the technical and competitive level continued to grow, with the new Azzurra winning the first edition of the redesigned circuit.

Azzurra passed into the hands of the sons of YCCS member Alberto Roemmers, Albert junior and Pablo, and won four titles in the 52 Super Series, in 2012, 2015, 2017 and 2019, in addition to a TP52 World Championship in 2015.

Ten great seasons in the circuit were topped off with a victory in the Cape Town leg in South Africa in 2020.

Over the years the structure of the team built by Guillermo Parada remained practically unchanged, based on bonds of friendship and fraternity. The main changes on board related to the tacticians: Francesco Bruni, and later Vasco Vascotto, left for America's Cup campaigns with Luna Rossa, while multiple Olympic medal-winner Santiago Lange withdrew from the 2020 season to prepare for the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Prior to Covid-19 bringing all activities to a halt, new tactician Michele Paoletti guided Azzurra to her most recent victory in Cape Town.

In 2020 the Azzurra TP52 programme supported by the Roemmers family drew to a close, after having flown the YCCS burgee high for a decade in the top professional circuit for monohull yachts.
