Mumm 30 World Championship dates announced
Porto
Cervo, Italy. 14th March 2007.
The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda together
with the International Mumm 30 Class
Association have announced the dates
for the 2007 Moby Mumm 30 World Championship.
The regattas, organized by the YCCS
in Porto Cervo, Sardinia, will take
place from 1st to 7th October including
two days of Pre-Worlds racing on the
same Sardinian regatta course.
The Moby
Mumm 30 World Championships will be
the culmination of an intense season
of racing and celebrations for the
Yacht Club Costa Smeralda which commemorates
its 40th anniversary in 2007.
The
Mumm 30 class will be no less active
in a 2007 which sees the fleet competing
in regattas in the USA, Australia
and Europe.
One competitor to
watch will surely be Frenchman Erik
Maris, current holder of the world
title, with his Twins, while Australian
National Champion Southern Sun, owned
by Bruce Eddington and winner of her
class in January’s Acura Key
West Race week, will also be a strong
favourite. With the list of previous
world champions including names such
as Vincenzo Onorato (ITA), Mike Law
(GBR) and Ed Collins (GBR), the combination
of outstanding sailors, high performance
one design yachts, and the world class
race course off the north-eastern
coast of Sardinia will make for some
exciting competition.
“The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda
is delighted to close our 2007 sporting
calendar with a top-class event such
as the Moby Mumm 30 World Championship.”
commented YCCS Commodore
Gianfranco Alberini. “The Mumm
30 is a growing, active class, and
after last year’s Worlds in
Miami, USA, we are pleased to welcome
the fleet back to the Mediterranean
for their 2007 championship.”
“The Mumm 30
class couldn’t be happier to
head to Porto Cervo for its world
championship this year,” states
Geoff Stagg of the Mumm 30 management
group. “We are extremely fortunate
to have the support of top notch organizations
like the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda
and Moby. In this, the International
Sailing Federation’s centenary
year, we are looking forward to a
fantastic Moby Mumm 30 World Championship.”
